We were saddened to learn that one of our favourite artists, Lhasa de Sela, had died on January 1 at her home in Montreal after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Ever since the release of her debut album ‘La Llorona’ in 1997, Lhasa has held a special place in our hearts. She held a unique position in the world of music and seemed to never compromise her ideals or even her methods. She waited six years before producing a second album, even though the first one was a major success. When she came to visit our shop around the release of ‘The Living Road’ we were honoured to meet her and thrilled to find her to be a warm and down-to-earth person. She will be greatly missed by the thousands of people who were touched by her wonderful music.

Hello everyone,

I am writing to you all to bid you a big Highlife style farewell. After many years of working as part of the Highlife team (and loving it), the time has come for me to leave.

Actually, sixteen years have passed since I first started working at Highlife. Why, I can even remember when we had cassette tapes, Dennis wore a mustache and we still had wall-to-wall carpet!

Highlife has introduced me to fantastic music, people, and don’t get me started on the incredible gigs and concerts I have attended (or missed, for that matter, dammit!)

Highlife has been like family to me, and Dennis & Kevin have been very kind in giving me this opportunity to say goodbye to you all. Right now I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I know that great music will be playing there.

So here’s to all: clients, co-workers, promoters, musicians, reps, dancers, DJs, festival folk and weirdos ( you know who you are!). I met a whole lot of very fine people, some of whom have become dear friends. We’ve had some great laughs!

Thank you so much, everyone, let’s keep in touch. If you know of any interesting opportunities send them my way - especially if visiting Paris regularly is part of the package!
