A lovely reminder. “Documentary about Orchestra Baobab that was made for their comeback album, 2002′s “Specialist in all styles”. It documents Baobab’s story, music and band members.”

RIP Gil Scott-Heron
One of the more poignant obituaries of GSH we’ve run across, by Greg Tate in the Village Voice via Questlove’s twitter.
Gil knew he wasn’t bigger than hip-hop—he knew he was just better. Like Jimi was better than heavy metal, Coltrane better than bebop, Malcolm better than the Nation of Islam, Marley better than the King James Bible. Better as in deeper—emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, politically, ancestrally, hell, probably even genetically. Mama was a Harlem opera singer; papa was a Jamaican footballer (rendering rolling stone redundant); grandmama played the blues records in Tennessee. So grit shit and mother wit Gil had in abundance, and like any Aries Man worth his saltiness he capped it off with flavor, finesse and a funky gypsy attitude.

Be Good Tanyas News: Vinyl & Tour
Sweet news: The BGTs are releasing vinyl and touring this summer!
It’s been 10 years since Vancouver-based, alt-folk trio The Be Good Tanyas released their critically-lauded debut album Blue Horse on Nettwerk Records. To celebrate, the band has announced that they will released a special, limited edition 180-gram vinyl on July 5, 2011, with a deluxe 2-LP gatefold, 28-page songbook and digital download card. The vinyl will include the 12 original tracks from Blue Horse, as well as three previously unreleased bonus tracks.
To mark this special anniversary, The Be Good Tanyas are reuniting for a select run of Western dates this summer, which kick off with an appearance at the Vancouver 125 Festival at Brockton Point (Stanley Park) on July 8.
